Jim T.
Software Engineering Manager

Jim had been with eRoom for 10 years when EMC acquired it—offering him new opportunities. Now he’s in the Information Rights Management division of EMC, where he oversees a team of engineers that develops technologies to protect highly classified documents for a wide range of companies.

In addition to developing software, Jim mentors and manages a team of engineers. A number of products are in different stages of being rolled out. "It’s a lot of juggling and multi-tasking, but it’s the challenge and the change I was looking for," he says.

Why Jim joined EMC

Jim has worked at a lot of companies in his career and has been through many acquisitions. He started at Lotus Notes; then IBM bought it. He also worked for a startup company, which Documentum took over. Later he moved to eRoom—and then EMC. "With each acquisition, our range of information solutions expands," says Jim. The EMC network is composed of a large group of diverse companies and partners, but they all operate under our overall mission—to help organizations of all sizes get the most value from their information.

EMC is growing to keep up with the demand for our products and services. There’s a lot of work to do, especially in engineering. "Finding enough resources is a challenge at EMC," says Jim. But in challenges there are creative opportunities.
