Documentum 6 Enterprise Content Management Platform
EMC unveils Documentum 6 enterprise content management (ECM) platform. This broad spectrum of ECM products includes software covering transactional content management, archiving, knowledge worker, compliance, interactive content management, and platform infrastructure.

Broad Line of New Storage Systems and Software
EMC introduces a new line-up of storage systems and software that allows customers of all sizes to store information more cost-effectively, securely, and intelligently. The product line includes a new entry-level Rainfinity appliance for file archiving.
Secure Information Sharing Architecture
EMC forms an alliance with Cisco and Microsoft to develop the Secure Information Sharing Architecture, which allows government information to be shared across organizations. The architecture meets the increased need for protecting and sharing information.

Verid Acquisition
EMC acquires Florida-based Verid to broaden and strengthen the offerings of RSA, our security division. The acquisition adds key knowledge-based authentication technology to a portfolio that covers the end-to-end verification process.
May
Improved RSA Encryption for Cisco
EMC extends its strategic alliance with Cisco via RSA, which begins working with the networking company to develop technology that will help their customers improve and simplify encryption of confidential information.
EMC Disc Library 6000 Series
EMC announces the world’s largest single system virtual tape library (VTL), which scales to 1.8 petabytes of usable compressed capacity and backs up more than 11 terabytes of data per hour. The broadest portfolio of backup and recovery technology in the industry gets even bigger.

Seventh Year as #1 Provider of Storage Software
EMC is ranked as the #1 provider of storage software in 2006 in the March 07 IDC Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker. EMC also leads the worldwide storage software market in total revenue for the 16th consecutive quarter, and is among the five fastest growing data protection and recovery vendors in year-over-year revenue growth.

Russian Software Development Center Plans
EMC unveils plans to build a state-of-the-art software development center in St. Petersburg, Russia. The facility is part of a broader commitment to invest $100 million in Russia over the next four years.
VMware IPO
EMC announces a key IPO for VMware, the global leader in virtualized-desktop software. The IPO entails a plan to offer approximately 10% of the company, while retaining full ownership of the remaining shares. The expectation is that the IPO will unlock more of VMware’s value for EMC shareholders.
2006
- Gartner Inc, positions EMC in the "Leaders" quadrant in the "Magic Quadrant for Midrange Enterprise Disk Arrays, 2H06" report.
- American Honda Motor Co., Inc. recognizes EMC for its excellence in providing information management and storage systems, software, and solutions to manage Honda’s ever-increasing volume of information.
- EMC acquires Avamar Technologies.
- The Beijing City Government’s Information Office and EMC sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- EMC continues to extend its mid-tier storage leadership with the introduction of new EMC CLARiiON CX3 UltraScale systems, featuring combined Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity within the same array.

- President George W. Bush announces his intention to appoint Joe Tucci, Chairman, President, and CEO of EMC Corporation, as a member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
- EMC introduces its integrated EMC eDiscovery Solution, designed to help customers better manage the complex and potentially costly legal discovery process.
- EMC releases EMC Retrospect 7.5, adding more options-and improved speed, stability, and value-to the award-winning backup and recovery software for SMBs.
- EMC announces upgrades to its flagship EMC Symmetrix DMX-3 storage system, making the DMX-3 the world’s first storage array capable of scaling beyond a petabyte of capacity. And with the addition of new low-cost Fibre Channel drives, customers are able to consolidate more information across more applications and storage tiers in a single array-for significantly improved TCO.
- Taking IP storage performance to new levels, EMC introduces EMC Celerra Multi-Path File System for iSCSI (MPFSi). The innovative new file-sharing software offers customers greater scaling capabilities and significant performance increases for the most data-intensive environments.
- To help customers address regulatory and legal compliance demands, EMC releases new Event-based Retention and Litigation Hold software and security features for EMC Centera content-addressed storage systems (CAS)-which provide users more security, flexibility, and control over archived information.
- EMC announces its intent to acquire RSA Security. RSA brings industry-leading identity and access management technologies and encryption and key management software to EMC’s expanding information-centric security portfolio.
2005
- Continuing its focus on the content management opportunity, EMC acquires Captiva Software, a leading provider of input management solutions. Captiva’s market-leading products provide capabilities critical to implementing advanced information lifecycle management initiatives.
- EMC acquires privately held Rainfinity, adding leading network file virtualization technology to its software portfolio. The acquisition strengthens EMC’s ability to meet customer demands for more comprehensive ILM solutions and better resource management.
- EMC extends its CLARiiON line of networked storage systems and software with UltraPoint Technology enabling midrange users to scale with leading availability and reliability features. Also for midrange users: the next-generation CLARiiON Disk Library release provides a simple, faster, and more reliable backup and recovery solution.
- In another industry milestone, EMC introduces the Symmetrix DMX-3—the world’s largest, fastest, and most scalable high-end storage array. With the DMX-3, large storage users can consolidate their information onto one high-end platform to ease management burdens and lower costs.
- The leader in storage software, EMC extends operations of its software and services organization to Silicon Valley and the East Bay with the opening of training and briefing centers in Santa Clara and Pleasanton, California.
- To meet increased demand for ILM services worldwide, EMC expands its Consulting Services organization with practices in the Asia Pacific, Japan, and Latin America.
- EMC announces its Invista Network Storage Virtualization Platform solution, which places virtualization intelligence in users’ existing SAN infrastructures. With Invista, enterprises can virtualize storage across multi-tiered, heterogeneous SANs while continuing to use array-based replication and other storage software functionality.
- Demonstrating leadership in the enterprise content management (ECM) market, EMC signs on its 50th partner to the EMC Documentum Partner Program-a program to assist ISVs, VSPs, and SIs in optimizing their applications to work with the EMC Documentum ECM platform.
- Raising the bar once again for NAS storage, EMC releases the industry’s fastest, most advanced networked attached storage system, the Celerra NSX. The NSX, combined with new software functionality, offers users a complete solution for achieving the benefits of ILM.
- EMC ControlCenter passes SNIA Client Conformance Testing Program—reaffirming the company’s commitment to open standards and indicating that the storage management software suite can function in heterogeneous storage environments.
- EMC unveils its next-generation ECM platform, solidifying its position as the world leader in enterprise content management software and solutions with a completely unified architecture: the EMC Documentum Content Management Platform.
- EMC introduces native iSCSI platforms within its industry-leading CLARiiON networked storage systems line. The addition of the new CLARiiON models produces the broadest set of Fibre Channel and native iSCSI storage networking solutions in the industry, to meet varying needs—from the world’s largest data centers to small and midsize businesses.
- Offering greater data protection for small and midsize businesses, distributed enterprises, and home offices, EMC introduces new EMC Dantz Retrospect 7 software releases—making it easy to administer and deliver fast, reliable backups with smart restores.
- EMC acquires SMARTS, a privately held technology leader in event automation and real-time network systems management software. The acquisition expands EMC’s lead in information and storage management with SMARTS world-class modeling, correlation, and root cause analysis technology.
2004
- EMC celebrates its 25th anniversary, commemorating two and half decades of growth, innovation, and leadership. EMC remains one of the fastest-growing and most successful major information technology providers in the world.
- Expanding its reach into the fast-growing small and midsize business (SMB) market, EMC acquires Dantz Development Corporation, a supplier of backup and recovery software for SMBs. Dantz’s advanced technology complements EMC’s line of disk-based backup and recovery solutions.
- EMC sets a new industry benchmark for affordable, easy-to-use networked storage with the introduction of the EMC CLARiiON AX100. Based on a unique EMC patent-pending design and technology, the CLARiiON AX100 is a customer-installable networked storage system with integrated functions for simple management and advanced protection.
- EMC extends its NetWin family of network attached storage (NAS) products with a low-cost NAS Gateway for Microsoft Windows environments. The EMC NetWin 110 NAS Gateway, based on the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 platform, is a cost-effective solution for customers looking to implement NAS for the first time or expand the capabilities of a storage area network by enabling it to perform NAS functions as well.
- EMC introduces new DMX-2 technology, expanding the Symmetrix DMX Series with up to 30% more performance. Cumulative enhancements to the Symmetrix DMX Series deliver up to twice the performance of the initial Symmetrix DMX Series introduced just 12 months ago.
- EMC widens its mid-tier storage lead by introducing its next generation CLARiiON CX300, CX500, and CX700 systems. EMC also announces SAN Copy and SnapView software upgrades enabling increased data mobility and more powerful backup and recovery.
- EMC continues its NAS innovation with new gateway and integrated Celerra NS700 models designed to deliver industry-leading flexibility, price/performance, and enhanced functionality. EMC NAS unit growth nears 100% for 2003.
- EMC announces that all Symmetrix and Symmetrix DMX systems shipped since 1997 and all CLARiiON and CLARiiON CX systems shipped since 2000 are now capable of being managed by SNIA Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S)-based management software—providing testimony to EMC’s commitment to deliver standards-based products.
- With more than 300 partners and resellers enrolled in the EMC Centera Partner Program, the Centera Content-Addressed Storage (CAS) system is the fastest growing storage platform in EMC history and a critical component of EMC’s information lifecycle management offering.
- In partnership with Oracle Corporation, EMC unveils a new joint solution to help Oracle customers efficiently migrate inactive database records onto more cost-effective storage using EMC DatabaseXtender family software.
- EMC introduces two new EMC Proven solutions for SAP software environments designed to help customers quickly upgrade to the newest versions of SAP software or improve productivity using EMC Replication Manager.
- EMC Symmetrix DMX is named "Product of the Year" in Disk and Disk Subsystems and EMC Centera is awarded the bronze for Backup Hardware by STORAGE magazine. EMC is the only company to receive two awards in this competition.
- EMC is named the "2003 IT Supplier of the Year" by Bank One for demonstrating the highest level of performance in back-office compliance, service-level agreements, account team and supplier personnel, diversity, satisfaction with products and services, and more.
- EMC completes the acquisition of VMware, Inc., a rapidly growing, privately held software company specializing in Intel-based virtual computing software.

- EMC introduces the Symmetrix DMX series of information storage systems based on the revolutionary new patented Direct Matrix Architecture. Symmetrix DMX800 becomes the world’s first modular high-end storage system.
- EMC introduces the world’s only storage system that supports Fibre Channel and ATA drives simultaneously.
- EMC expands into new online capabilities for the EMC ControlCenter family of open management software with the release of EMC SAN Architect.
- EMC introduces EMC VisualSRM and EMC VisualSAN-new mid-tier storage management software for small and midsize organizations.
- EMC announces SRDF/A, the world’s fastest extended-distance replication software, and EMC Snap, the world’s only high-end, space-saving replication software—driving up performance while cutting the cost of local and remote replication.

- Brigham and Women’s Hospital and EMC establish the EMC Data Center for Information Imaging to develop innovative practices for a fully digital healthcare imaging environment.
